Ben & Jerry’s: Waterbury Factory Innovation Station

Waterbury, VT

Challenge

Transform and upgrade an existing structure at the iconic Ben & Jerry’s factory location in Vermont to promote and educate tour guests on the newest Ben & Jerry’s product innovation, the Pint Slice. The updated design should be playful, interactive, quirky, and true to the fun and adventurous spirit of the Ben & Jerry’s brand.

Approach

Trigger(House revamped and reconstructed an aging shed on the factory tour property into an eccentric ice cream laboratory, complete with touch-and-play interactives and education-focused design. The exterior of the shed was refinished with materials and custom add-ons, creating a futuristic workshop facade. Inside, the Pint Slice factory came to life through colorful and dimensional design, informative interactives, and graphics. The main feature, an oversized innovation machine, allowed guests to touch, crank, and twist levers, buttons, and wheels as the conveyor belt pumped out Pint Slices.

Results

This transformative experience for guests has become a crowd favorite for play on the factory grounds, welcoming about 350,000 visitors annually.
